Board of Directors

The AYAA Board of Directors is composed of art teachers across the state of Arkansas. 

Jason McCann

AYAA Director

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and run council meetings.

  • Meet with state officers and sponsors.

  • Main contact for AAA.

  • Give opening and closing remarks at the convention.

  • Book the keynote speaker.

  • Work with Finance Director on 501-C3 non profit status

  • Book the convention venue.

  • Arrange food services at the event

  • Purchase event insurance.

  • Organize a competition floor plan.

Madison Fontenot

Finance Director

Responsibilities:

  • Process membership payments and deposits.

  • Send payment receipts.

  • Handle convention expenses, stipends, vendors, and scholarships.

  • Prepare a year-end financial report.

  • ​Work with Director on 501-3C Non profit status

Christy Lawrence

Membership Director

Responsibilities:​

  • Track school memberships and payments.

  • Confirm membership records are correct.

  • Keep organized school folders with all correspondence.

  • Run the registration table at the event.

  • Work with the treasurer to confirm payments.

Madeline Nelson Langston

Communication Director

Responsibilities:​

  • Send updates and announcements to school sponsors.

  • Share information with other council members.

  • Manage social media accounts.

  • Create flyers and digital materials to recruit new schools.

  • Keep the website up to date.

  • Oversee design of the AYAA logo.

Remy Tabor

Competition Director

Responsibilities:

  • Recruit judges (college staff, local artists).

  • Prepare judge books, track entries, and assign helpers.

  • Guide judges on art categories (Abstract, Expressive, Realistic).

  • Will work with the rest of the council to adjust or add/subtract categories in the competition based on number of entries from one year to the next.

  • Will work with an assistant/co-chair to plan and run On-site competition

  • Setup college fair with representatives from area universities there to judge artwork

Anji Franks

Scholarship Director

Responsibilities:

  • Form a review panel for scholarship applications.

  • Update and manage the scholarship application process.

  • Collect applicant data and send award letters.

  • Send payments to colleges after acceptance forms are returned

Shirley Tipton

Site Set-Up Director

Responsibilities:

  • Set up tables and chairs for artwork displays.

  • Bring student helpers for setup.

  • Coordinate with audio/video technicians.

  • Stay after the event to clean up and take down.

James Jumper

Awards Director​

Responsibilities:

  • Order award plaques and Patron of the Arts plaque.

  • Work with the Director to select Patron of the Arts.

  • Order gifts for judges.

Keela Olson, Brent Hawley

Presentation Directors

Responsibilities:

  • Create a slideshow for the Awards Ceremony.

  • Coordinate with Competition Chair and helpers.

  • Prepare slides to introduce college fair representatives.

Stacey Mitchell

On-site Competition Director

Responsibilities:

  • Organize the On-site student roster provided by member schools by category 

  • Create Prompts for all 6 On-site categories

  • Provide materials related to the categories and prompts

  • Work with judges assigned to these categories at the AYAA convention
