Board of Directors

The AYAA Board of Directors is composed of art teachers across the state of Arkansas. 

Cheryl Blasdel, Flippin High School

AYAA State Sponsor

Responsibilities:

  • Booking all convention facilities, security, and guest speakers.

  • Appoint all chairpersons

  • Apply for AAA sanctions

  • Conduct all financial matters in good standing.

Awards:

  • Ordering and picking up of awards

  • Organizing awards for convention day

  • Supervising the distribution of awards to awardees

Scholarships:

  • Creating a scholarship application and requirements

  • Appointing judges

  • Calculating rubric forms, keep a record of the recipient

  • Conducting scholarship award ceremony

  • Sending scholarship checks to appropriate colleges and universities

Jason McCann, Little Rock Central High School

Judging Chairperson

Awards Presentation Announcer

Responsibilities:

  • Booking all professionals for judging

  • Compiling lists of all awarded students

  • Appointing judges' assistants.

  • Announcer for the Awards Presentation

Stacey Mitchell, Little Rock Central High School

On-Site Competition Chairperson

Responsibilities:

  • Sending information concerning on-site competition the state sponsor each year by December 1st.

  • Receiving and managing all student on-site registration. 

  • Creating a division of entries for each category .

  • Creating prompts for all categories.

  • Set up, takedown, and oversee of the on-site event.

Responsibilities:

  • Creation of the Awards Slideshow Presentation

  • Managing and updating AYAA Website

  • Coordinating photographs for the website

  • Coordination social media 

  • Creating and managing the AYAA Senior Scholarship applications

Matt Teravest, Parkview Arts/Science Magnet High School

Awards Runner Chairperson

Responsibilities:​

  • Photographing all first place artworks for all judged categories

  • Collecting and organizing all category winners.

Beth Ivens, Mountain Home High School

Officer Election Chariperson

Responsibilities:

  • Conducts and organizes elections

  • Collects and counts ballots

  • Announces the student winners

Abigail Preston, Perryville High School

Patron of the Arts Chairperson

Responsibilities:

  • Conducts and awards the AYAA Patron of the Arts award.
